Tooth Pain & Jaw Pain
Something hurts. You’re not sure what’s causing it. Start here.
Pain Is Your Mouth Telling You Something
• Same-day evaluation available
• Find the actual source — not just mask the symptom
• Pain relief is always the first priority
• No referral needed
Tooth pain and jaw pain are two of the most common reasons people pick up the phone and call a dentist. The problem is that the pain doesn’t always tell you what’s wrong. A toothache might be a cavity, a crack, an infection, or grinding damage. Jaw pain might be TMJ, a bite problem, a sinus issue, or a tooth that’s quietly failing underneath an old filling.
Dr. Daniel Dafo’s first priority is getting you out of pain. His second priority is figuring out exactly where it’s coming from — because treating the wrong thing means the pain comes back.
How Dr. Dafo Finds the Source
He starts with a thorough clinical exam and digital imaging — X-rays, and CBCT scans if needed — to see what’s happening beneath the surface. He’ll test individual teeth, check your bite, evaluate your jaw joint, and look for signs of grinding, infection, or structural damage.
Then he does what he always does: shows you what he found and explains it clearly. If it’s a cavity, he’ll tell you. If it’s a crack, he’ll show you. If it’s your jaw joint, he’ll explain how and why. And if it’s something that doesn’t need treatment right now, he’ll tell you that too.
Common Causes — and What Comes Next
Options may include dental fillings for decay, cracked tooth repair, gum disease treatment, TMJ/TMD management, custom night guards for clenching or grinding, or extraction when a tooth can’t be saved.
The goal is always conservative care first — stabilizing the issue and preventing it from worsening.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can tooth pain come from the jaw?
Yes. TMJ disorders, clenching, or bite issues can cause pain that feels like it’s coming from a tooth. Dr. Dafo evaluates the full picture — teeth, joint, and muscles — to find the connection. What if my tooth pain goes away on its own?
That doesn’t always mean the problem is gone. A tooth nerve can die quietly, and the pain stops — but the infection continues. If you experienced significant pain that suddenly resolved, it’s still worth getting checked.Do you offer same-day appointments for pain?
Yes. Call (540) 288-9212 and let the team know you’re in pain. They’ll work to get you in as quickly as possible.
